Book Reviews
'Buying a House in France' by Andre de Vries (pub.
Vacation Work)
This book is a detailed, informative guide that covers any
question that you may have on the business of buying property
in France.
Starting
with a ‘Vive la France’ introduction that covers
history and geography amongst other background information,
it moves through a comprehensive run-down of the purchasing
procedure and what happens next.
Finding
property to rent or buy, fees, contracts and costs, making
money from your property – it’s all here in a
detailed, easy to read format. This book has a particularly
detailed section on finance, which includes will and inheritance
tax, local and real estate taxes and income tax. Amazon
gives this book a 5 star rating.
'Buying
a Home in France' by David Hampshire (pub. Survival Books
Ltd)
I am a great believer in comparative information, so I would
also advise you to get 'Buying a Home in France' by David
Hampshire (pub. Survival Books Ltd) too. This book has been
described as humorous and helpful and I found it to be both.
Chapters
like the place to live, your dream home, the purchase procedure,
moving house and taxation answer those oft-asked questions
and then some that I hadn’t even thought of! Although
both books cover the same subject they expand on differing
aspects of the buying process. In an enormously important
decision like this, is there such a thing as too much info?

sample the delightful French cuisine!

and old style comfort with a huge lounge to relax in, a peaceful
atmosphere and yet it is right in the heart of Libourne, close
